      How to Order Interlocking Metal Weather Strip for Doors & Windows

      Windows come in all shapes and sizes. Therefore, it is important to understand how the weatherstrip works and be able to improvise the details for windows that vary from the standard design.

      It is important that windows be in good condition before applying weatherstrip. These instructions only detail weatherstrip.

      It is important that you have a good understanding of how the sash and the weatherstrip work together before proceeding. Metal weatherstrip is fastened with special ¾ inch nails sold by the pound. You can purchase our nails by the pound. 

      Figure A shows the location of each weatherstrip profile placed in the window between sash and jamb. IMPORTANT: The upper sash weatherstrip #2 must project at least 1.5" below the meeting rail!

      • Figure B shows the upper and lower sash viewed from above. Weatherstrip profiles 2C, 3C, 4C, 5C fit between the sash and jamb and into the slot on the sides of the sash.
      • Figure C shows a cross section of the meeting rails with modifications. Weatherstrip profiles 7 and 8 interlock together when the meeting rails of the upper and lower sash are closed.
      • Figure D shows a cross section of the lower sash meeting the sill, where weatherstrip profile 2, 3 or 6 fits into the slot on the bottom of the sash.
